Felix Greenhill Testimonial

Hi there, I’m Felix. I graduated high school at the end of 2020. I had increasingly become frustrated with the school system and with the end of school in sight I knew I would need to find work to support myself through my tertiary studies. When I created my resume to start applying for jobs I noticed a glaring issue: the skills section, or more specifically, the lack of important job-ready experience. Having gone through the ATAR pathway at school I had spent most of my time focusing on academic skills without actually preparing myself to enter the workforce, leaving me at a huge disadvantage when job-hunting.

At the start of 2021 I worked through the Yebp! hospitality all-rounder course and am now employed at Yebp! while I balance my tertiary studies. The standout factor of the training course is the hands-on practical experience – the opportunity to learn in a real cafe puts the pressure on to learn quickly, and to always do things the right way. The training course is a fantastic learning experience regardless of your career path. I now feel confident that I can use these important foundational skills wherever I work: effective workforce communication; how to manage my time, multitask, and prioritise effectively; professional customer service and point of sale practices; and a general sense of responsibility and pride in my work.

As well as foundational skills I’ve learnt so much about working in the hospitality industry, just to mention a few things: how to work in accordance to WHS requirements; knifework and kitchen prep techniques; basic barista training; how to write up dockets; how to deliver food to tables; and how to properly wash and store dishes in a kitchen.

Overall the training is a fantastic and invaluable experience for trainees to get an edge on their competition, and to enable employers to hire reliable staff who can start being productive right out of the gate without the need for foundational training. I’d really like to thank Deb and Billy for providing this fantastic training experience and I wish all future trainees the very best.
